Sumika Sawara/佐原 澄香

Sumika Sawara is a professional performer of kotsuzumi (small hand drum), a traditional Japanese instrument used in Noh theater. Trained under master Masahiro Sowa and a graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts, she blends classical performance with innovative educational and cross-cultural programs.
Based in Tokyo, she offers immersive workshops for international visitors, introducing the rhythm, sound, and spirit of Noh music in an intimate, hands-on setting. Her performances and research explore the health and communicative power of traditional vocal and rhythmic techniques, including programs for the elderly and children.
Sawara is also active in digital preservation of Noh culture, 3D archiving of masks and performances, and creating accessible experiences bridging ancient arts with modern expression.
